You still need to turn it to run, yes, but you can make it so the car won't start with just the key. Could consider it an anti-theft measure if the button is "hidden" like his is. On my car, the LINK ECU takes a few seconds to read the MAP sensor and boot, so the extra second or two it would take after turning the key to run then hitting the start button would be ideal if I ever let someone else drive the car. It'll start if you don't let it take its time, but boost will be all sorts of effed up till you restart the car properly.
